Open course delivery allows for widely varying diversity of participants' previous knowledge which makes it challenging to engage more people at the right level and avoid losing them quickly. Provide pre-introductory materials that lead into the main delivery or micro-foundation course snipets that offer scaffolds for more complex material. Make threshold concepts more detailed and explicit[1].
