It is hard to synchronize participants' experiences in a non-linear MOOC where interaction between participants is important to its success because participants approach the activities in a different pace or order and sometimes they go into independent explorations outside of the MOOC activities. Create regular "checkpoints" which offer participants some breathing space to help synchronize the course flow or pace and catch up on the socal vibe and notice recent highlights[1].
